Athena – Goddess of war & wisdom

Goddess Athena epitomises the energy of this Virgo full moon. She is forthright & strong, her actions always backed by logic & reason. A classic beauty, supposedly birthed from the head of Zeus her father, Athena was a calm & thoughtful woman taking much to rile her to anger. She would not go into battle unless the cause was justified, unless the motive was pure & mostly unless the outcome was assured. Utilising divine wisdom & the intuitive guidance of the heart … a truly supporting blend & balance of both male & female energy, introspection & action!

The Parthenon in Athens was built in her honour. It is not known which came first, her heroic success in battle or the notoriety of her defence of her king, the city & it’s people. She is portrayed with the shield of victory, the cunning of the serpent & the ‘all-seeing’ wisdom of the owl. The olive tree became synonymous with Athena’s bearing & her Greek heritage from whence came the offering of the olive branch – settling disagreement without conflict.

Athena was a talented & proficient crafts woman, her projects ranging from weaving to metalwork. She competently managed & handled the horses used to drive chariots … equal to any man in skill & strength! Her healing abilities were well developed having respect for the cleansing & bathing of the body in water. And most like her Virgoan counterpart she maintained her chastity & virginity living mostly asexual.
