img_4432One of six children, Edgar Cayce was born south of Kentucky on March 18, 1877. While initially rather dreamy & not present at school, the reprimands of his father were harsh. Under esoteric guidance he developed a photographic memory & was able to access vast amounts of theory & knowledge. Growing up, Edgar had no pre conditioned limits to his visions, often connecting & conversing to the deceased, the elementals & angelic beings.

He is now considered the forefather of wholistic medicine & the new age movement.

Highly religious, Edgar studied the teachings of the Christ & suffered great personal angst as his channelings & esoteric theories conflicted with his religious beliefs & social conditioning. Cayce left school in the equivalent of the 9th grade & pursued an endless quest for employment & income. He was married in 1897 & had 3 children, 2 sons went to war & married on return, the third child was lost to illness early in life, prior to Cayce’s trust & validation of his healing gifts.

In 1900 while working with his father he was struck with laryngitis taking a full year to recover. A touring hypnotist found Cayce’s voice was unaffected under trance. He was diagnosed with “psychological paralysis “. Under hypnosis Cayce would speak from the objective use of “we” as noticeably different to the subjective terminology of “I”. Indicating that indeed he was connecting to a higher source or collaboration & he was labelled “clairvoyant”. During this life enforced sabbatical he took up photography, a more mainstream occupation that periodically assisted him financially throughout his career. Initially, his wife disapproved of his talents as opposing to the church & his religious beliefs but several associates along the way encouraged Edgar to do trance readings for those that were sick or in need. Of which he asked for no money.

Up until this time Cayce’s readings were purely anatomical & medicinal. In 1923 he met wealthy printer & metaphysician Arthur Lammers who used Cayce’s gifts to validate & confirm many theorems including the belief system of reincarnation. For his own health reasons he was guided to move his family to the coast of Virginia where he established 2 hospitals the first for physical wellbeing using a range of alternate healing modalities focussing predominantly on digestion, nutritional absorption & wellbeing. The second hospital targeted the emotional self & the vitality of mind & spirit. This eventually closed due to the economic decline of the depression.

In 1931 after many requests by interested students, Cayce set up an education facility to teach his skills & share his channelled wisdom. Classes covered a range of subjects including: astrology, dreams, past lives, soulmates & the understanding of the Akash. An “Association for Research & Enlightenment” was created in Virginia Beach with a facility that housed what would become the most amazing library of Cayce’s channelled word. The information was not radical but consisted of universal wisdom & ancient understanding. To date, it still exists & some 14 000 files are resourced by tens of thousands of visitors annually. Readings that Cayce admits he never heard himself!

In 1943, a published autobiography increased his social acclaim & simultaneously he felt unable to decline requests from families searching for & aiding loved ones post WWII. His own guidance suggested he slow down. Edgar Cayce collapsed then suffered a stroke in 1944 & died in January 1945, a year post his own health channelling advising him to rest & prepare to get well or die!
