Shastra – divine placement

March 4, 2013

Shastra – the art of placementrocks

The practise of Shastra looks at layout, design & the effect of natural & man made features on a home or building. It comprises of a number of ‘rules’ that signify good energy flow which are conducive to harmonious living conditions. Shastra means  ‘skill’ and investigates where & how the prana, energy or lifeforce flows within & without a premise. Shastra takes into consideration the earth’s magnetic forces & geographic features of an area. Sites with exceptional qualities are considered sacred. These are areas on earth where it is easier for man to connect with the latent powers of the Universe or Cosmos.

Timing, the seasons & the hours are very important with Shastra – there is a time to activate, a time for rest, a time to speculate & a time to decline! Both within the seasons of the year & the hours of the day, there is a time for all doshas!!!   Similarly, your home has a life phase. Is your building older style, is it falling down or on the declining stage? Is your home newly built & of modern design? Are you making renovations, adding rooms & on the increasing phase?

If you know your dosha type …

try some simple colour therapy ideas to harmonize your living space:

Vata – use earthy, warm, gentle & inspiring colour

Pitta – surround yourself with cooling colours of the sea

Kapha – decorate with stimulating colours, reds, pinks, ‘hot’ & lively tones
