Camino de Santiago de Compostela – pilgrims trail
The Camino de Santiago de Compostela is a network of pilgrim trails that run through Europe, the main focus of which is the last 780 km which starts in France & runs along the Spanish coastline connecting peasant villages & culminating at the tomb of St James in North West Spain. It is also known as ‘The Way of St James’.
The trail lies in direct alignment with the milky way & follows the earth’s ley lines – as above, so below!!! By making the spiritual pilgrimage participants are invoking & connecting to the energy of the stars. Pilgrims make the journey to realign to spiritual purpose, for clarity, integration & life direction.
Shirley MacLaine travelled the sacred path in 1994 which became the focus of a book published in 2001, “The Camino”. Her journal entries describe the physical experience of walking the trail in addition to her emotional & spiritual journey – really interesting reading. Shirley describes vivid memories of past lives in Atlanta, she discusses concepts of the nature of gender & uses the process of the walk to face her personal fears while validating the power of love.
The Camino is also the focus of Director Mark Shea’s film, “The Way” starring Martin Sheen as the father who makes the Camino journey following the death of his son while making the pilgrimage. The film follows Sheen & introduces you to a cortege of characters all searching for meaning in life – fabulous!
Note: a must for the ‘spiritual travel’ bucket list – preferably by motorbike !!!
