Kundalini – rising forces

November 28, 2012

Kundalini is described as a “sleeping, dormant potential force” in the body (1). It consists of the female/lunar & male/solar energies of ‘Ida’ & ‘Pingala’. The potent force lies dormant in the base chakra, Muladhara, awaiting activation. As Ida & Pingala snake & interweave through the energy systems, the human potential awakes, evolves & enlightens. Ida travels to the breath in the left nostril & is Yin/cold in tendency. Pingala ascends to the right nostril & is considered Yang or hot. Both Ida & Pingala weave in & out of the chakras around ‘Sushumna’, an energetic central governing vessel.

Kundalini is awakened through meditation & esoteric practice, taking the spiritual being to new levels of awareness. When the Kundalini reaches the crown chakra the soul is said to be free of body & mind. This is the basis for spiritual awakening & consciousness practice & is the ultimate goal of such. It is best advised to address the awakening of Kundalini with a spiritual teacher. However, Kundalini can be invoked into action through a physical shock or trauma, eg; accident, difficult childbirth. (1) Wikipedia
