Yin & Yang – two halves of a whole

October 19, 2012

Yin & Yang – a Chinese symbol of Taoist philosophy

Yin & yang represent the eternal existence & equilibrium of the

balance of opposing forces in the universe.

Yang – light, male                                                                                      Yin – dark, female

projective, active                                                                                        introspective, passive

day, heaven                                                                                                      night, earth

In ancient astrology the sun & the moon were called ‘the luminaries’, guiding lights towards self- knowledge. The sun represents father & our masculine nature, it shines the light on ‘self’ & shows us the way forward.  The moon representing mother & our feminine nature teaches us how to relate to others, where we belong & how we can care for self & others.

The moon does not have a light of its own but is merely a reflection of the light of the sun, thus the interrelationship of need. Everything consists of light & dark, yang & yin, male & female. All of us are composed of male & female energy, light & shadow, love & fear etc. The harmonizing of these elements within creates peace.

Our brain also displays this in divine synchronicity. The left brain rules all that is logical, mathematical, analytical, cognitive, masculine & discriminating while the right brain shows a flair for the creative, esoteric, imaginative, intuitive, psychic, musical & feminine.

What happens when the left & right brain hemispheres become out of sync, is beautifully presented in a youtube clip by Jill Bolte Taylor. Jill is a scientist (neuroanatimist) turned metaphysician who suffered a stroke & talks the viewer through the experience while outlining & discussing the right/left brain function. Everyone should view this informative piece.
