Ho’Oponopono – ancient Hawaiian healing
I’m sorry … please forgive me … I love you … thank you
The Ho’oponopono is a forgiveness & reconciliation technique used to put something right or make amends.
This ancient Hawaiian healing technique focuses on forgiving that part of you that created an outcome in another. In many Pacific Islands communities, it is believed that holding anger or hiding a misdemeanour for over 3 days will induce sickness. A sick child is considered the product of parental or family conflict. Elders would gather the family together to resolve the dispute, with each individual allowed the freedom to voice their discrepancy & have their feelings acknowledged.
The Ho’oponopono was more broadly used from 1976 by healing priest or “Kahuna”, Morrnah Simeona. Morrnah developed the Ho’oponopono for self-healing & taught the technique to students in Europe. One of her students, Dr Hew Len, took it even further when he used the Ho’opopono to heal a prison full of inmates, without ever sitting face to face! Employed as a clinical psychologist for the Hawaiian State Hospital, he took the complete set of ‘high risk’ patient files & sat with each one forgiving that part of himself that had created the inmate’s particular wrongdoing. Over 3 years the morale & behaviour of the unit was improved until eventually, patients were released or transferred and the unit was no longer necessary.
Based on the concept that we create our own reality, Dr Hew Len believes that if we all took responsibility for what we do we would come to a space of ‘zero limits’ where there is no attachment to ourself as separate to another. Ultimately, this deals with the universal laws of cause & effect (karma); what we do to another in either this life or previous, comes back to us in some form. By processing & using the mantra “I’m sorry, please forgive me, I love you, thank you” we clear past moral debt & restore balance, harmony & equilibrium to our relationships. Additonally, we are clearing the tapes of our subconscious past programming to create freedom for all.
