Virgo – Herbalists & Healers

September 17, 2012

Virgos are the herbalists & healers of the zodiac, they have a strong connection to the earth & desire to be of service to their fellow man.

Transformation of a herb garden …

My garden now grows: oregano, basil, continental parsley, celery leaf, lemon thyme, aloe vera, citronella, mint, bay leaf, chives, rosemary & sometimes I can keep up the coriander. The water bath attracts: magpies, minors, kookaburras & pink galahs.

There is so much you can grow in pots or create a garden at home & so many resources on-line to look up medicinal & healing properties of plants. Here’s a very small sample:

Aloe vera – heals burns, wounds and other skin ailments

Basil – emotionally uplifting, increases joy & soothes disagreements between lovers

Bay leaf – known as the ‘silent doctor’, used for stimulation, including baldness remedies !

Celery – is a diuretic, great in salads & juices

Chives – great for circulation & as an antibiotic, similar to garlic but with more moderate effects

Citronella – well known insect repellant

Lemon thyme – is a decongestant & relaxant, great with fetta in quiche!

Marigold or calendula – is used to treat wounds and soothe skin

Oregano – is an antiseptic, as well as a cure for stomach and respiratory ailments

Parsley – is a liver & blood cleanser, also great for kidneys & prostate

Peppermint – assists with nausea & indigestion, also relieving symptoms of the common cold

Sage – good for cognitive function, sage reduces night sweats & fevers

Look around you – what’s growing?  Is nature trying to tell you something?

What healing properties does your garden (either constructed or naturally) have to offer?

Tip: A pot of Basil given as a gift brings wealth & good luck to a new home!
