Durga – the Invincible

Durga is the Hindu supreme goddess, she is all powerful & invincible, with up to 18 arms, she is often depicted riding a fierce tiger & carrying weapons capable of slaying any demon on her path. She is the total of all feminine power with the addition of that of the gods. Her clothes are coloured red, symbolic of passion & power.

She is moralistic & righteous, protecting mankind from malevolence by confronting & destroying evil forces such as selfishness, pride, jealousy, injustice, hatred, anger and ego. A true Warrior goddess, Durga was created to protect the world from the destruction capable by her male counterparts.

She is also known as Parvati or Kali & was the wife of Lord Shiva. A celebration of this goddess, Durga Puja (or Navaratri) is held every September/October
