Nan tien temple – Buddhist discipline

August 27, 2012

Nan tien, just south of Wollongong is Australia’s largest Buddhist temple. The temple holds one day & weekend silence & meditation retreats, hosts open days & a variety of Buddhist celebrations. The silent retreat is all about discipline & focus – conscious walking, conscious eating, conscious movement. The weekend programme is very structured & includes: gentle tai chi, chanting & even calligraphy. Meals are all vegetarian and are taken in silent awareness. Accomodation in the 100 room Pilgrim Lodge is very modern, with all the conveniences of a hotel room; tea & coffee facilities & equipped bathroom. There are various room arrangements to choose from including family rooms. The lodge itself overlooks gardens & lotus ponds & you can take time alone if required.

Nan tien retreat is all about discipline.

This silent retreat offers space to focus and is a good introduction to monastic life.
