Amma – The Holy Mother
Amma is a Hindu spiritual leader, a living Guru renown as the “hugging saint”.
She is Mother Earth personified & a hug from Amma is to receive & experience physical expression of true LOVE.
Amma was born & raised in a fishing village in Kerala, South India. From the early age of 9 years she took on the role “mother” within her own family caring for her siblings & all the domestics. She became very aware of the poverty & lack within her community & would offer practical assistance to anyone who asked. In her teenage years people would come & tell her their troubles, she would listen to their stories & problems & give them a hug to soothe away their tears. And the people told others about Amma & they just kept coming ….
Amma’s home soon became a place for her followers to come to worship, extra huts were constructed & a meeting hall built. Over time a complete Ashram has emerged & today Amma travels the world giving solace to the needy, raising money for humanitarium use & to care for the sick.
