Meditation for a “Monkey Mind”
Meditation is the process of stilling the mind.
To consciously engage in no thought in order to create a space or vacuum.
In the space of nothingness all things become possible!
The empty mind has the potential to access all that is. A “Monkey Mind” is one that chat chat chatters, non-stop action! Our onus to self & the reason for meditation is to still the chatter, to observe & watch as the thoughts pass & to choose thoughts that support our journey, our values & our self-love rather than diminish us &/or others! … Powerful stuff! … In any one moment we have a choice to hold a thought or release it. As our thoughts create our reality, here lies the opportunity for conscious & aware thinking.
Still your “Monkey Mind” with this simple meditation:
Sit or lie comfortably. If sitting, ensure your back is straight & supported, your feet flat on the floor, hands palm up in your lap or on your thighs. If lying, place a pillow under your knees, hands palm up 45 degrees from your body, feet fall out to each side. Gently close your eyes. Place the tip of your tongue at the back of your top teeth, and BREATHE.
Follow the breath, in through the nose & out through the nose. Watch the thoughts as they arise, observe each thought & let it pass .. another will soon take it’s place(!) .. allow that thought to pass & continue to breathe, gently, easily & consistently.
Allow your energy to drop deeper inside, away from the head, away from the breath. Spend some time to ‘BE’ in this stillness, in the quiet beyond the thoughts, away from the mind. This is a sacred place, a safe place where you can go any time, there is peace here & magic. This is the source & the doorway to your all knowing self. Come here often & take the time to connect to your true self.
When you are ready, begin to focus again on the breath, in through the nose & out through the nose. Feel your body where it is in the room, feel your feet on the floor or your back on the bed. Take your focus from your breathing technique & return your breath to normal. Wriggle your fingers & toes & when you are ready gently open your eyes.
Awareness is the art of conscious meditation.
Use meditation to still that “Monkey Mind” & choose thoughts that support you ….
